Thomas MacDonagh was an Irish political activist, poet, playwright, theatre director and revolutionary leader. He was one of the seven leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916 and a signatory of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. He was appointed director of training for the Irish Volunteers in 1914 and a Commandant of the 2nd Battalion of the Dublin Brigade, which fought in Jacob’s biscuit factory during the 1916 Easter Rising.
