Connolly in brief:
James Connolly was born in Edinburgh to Irish immigrant parents. He was a socialist with a keen interest in developing the rights of working class people. In 1896 he emigrated to Dublin where he founded the Irish Socialist Republican Party, and in later years was a key founder of the Irish Labour Party and the Irish Citizens Army. He played a pivotal role in the 1916 rebellion and was Commandant-General of the Dublin Brigade. James Connolly led the rebels at the General Post Office and was one of the seven signatories to the Proclamation.
