Description
Constance Georgine Markievicz T-Shirt with St Stephens Green Detail.
The Countess in brief:
Countess Constance Markievicz was a politician, revolutionary, nationalist, suffragette and socialist. She was of British decent, born in London, but later moved to Co Sligo in Ireland with her parents as a member of the Anglo-Irish aristocracy. She was a strong believer in women’s rights and the plight of the poor and it wasn’t long before she became involved in nationalist politics.
During the 1916 Rising she was appointed second in command to Michael Mallin at St. Stephen’s Green and supervised the setting-up of barricades all around Stephen’s Green. This t-shirt commemorates her bravery and heroism and celebrates the role of women in the 1916 Easter rising.
