A hand drawn character of James Connolly outside the rebel headquarters at the GPO in 1916.
James Connolly in brief:
James Connolly was born in Edinburgh to Irish immigrant parents. He was a socialist with a keen interest in developing the rights of working class people. In 1896 he emigrated to Dublin where he founded the Irish Socialist Republican Party, and in later years was a key founder of the Irish Labour Party and the Irish Citizens Army. He played a pivotal role in the 1916 rebellion and was Commandant General of the Dublin Brigade. James Connolly led the rebels at the General Post Office and consequently was one of the seven signatories to the Proclamation.
